Location: University of Michigan Flint, KIVA Room

At the end of 2009, an estimated 1,148,200 persons aged 13 and older were living with HIV infection in the United States, including 207,600 (18.1%) persons whose infections had not been diagnosed. It is estimated that there are approximately 700 people known to be living with HIV or AIDS in Genesee County, which ranks eighth in the state for prevalence rates.

As a means of addressing this growing epidemic, YOUR Center and Monday Manna are pleased to announce the Second Annual Red Ribbon Heroes Award Ceremony. This event, the first of its kind in Genesee County, is meant to  commemorate World AIDS Day by recognizing those individuals that have expended tireless efforts to advance the field HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment in Genesee County. Individuals will be honored in the areas of 1) Community Member, 2) Faith-based Institution, 3) College/University, 4) Medical/Hospital/Public Health, and 5) Youth Advocate/Ally. This year’s nominees are: Superintendent Quintin L. Marshall Sr., Superintendent LaMarr Griggs, Dr. Shandowyn L. Parker, Dr. Eyassu Habte-Gabr,  and the University of Michigan-Flint student group Monday Manna.

This event will begin promptly at 4:30pm on Thursday, December 1, 2012, at the University of Michigan-Flint (KIVA Room), located at 303 E Kearsley St., and will conclude at 6:30pm with a Candle Light vigil. YOUR  Center and Monday Manna invite you to speak blessings over your lives as we continue to reach out to our community in such a powerful way by attending this event.

For more information, or to pre-register for this event, please contact YOUR Center at 810.789.8637, or Monday Manna at 313-778-5851.
